Raphaele Shirley is a French-American multimedia artist based in New York. After studying at

the Beaux-Arts of Aix-en-Provence, France, she moved to New York in 1993.

Her practice spans sculpture, light, sound, video, performance, and ephemeral phenomena,

encompassing autonomous works and site-specific installations, often developed in collaboration

with musicians, artists, and technical specialists.

Drawing from science, ecology, and cosmology, her work explores the relationship between

theories of everything, religious belief, and contemporary scientific inquiry into quantum

physics, consciousness, and the unconscious.

Her work has been presented internationally at Kai Art Center (Estonia), Queens Museum,

Museum of the Moving Image, Hunter College, Chelsea Art Museum, Catskill Art Space and the

Sylvia Wald and Po Kim Foundation (USA), HayArt Cultural Center (Armenia), and the NCCA

Moscow and State Hermitage Museum (Russia), as well as at international biennials, art fairs and

media festivals.

Shirley has received support from the Norwegian Arts Council, CYFEST, and Wave Farm, and

participated in The Arctic Circle residency for two consecutive years.

Her latest monumental work, Passage, will be presented at Forever Is Now 06 at the Giza

Pyramids in Cairo, Egypt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
